a little this, a little that

I've been doin' laundry all day......stinks! Washing, drying, folding, putting up......stinks! I don't even think I finished all of it....the kids go through so many clothes. I think what's frustrating about that is that there was stuff in the dirty clothes that wasn't even dirty. They were just too lazy to put it up the first time it got washed, so it sat on their floor until this time and they just put it back in the dirty clothes. I folded three jackets today.....when was the last stinkin' time anybody around here wore a jacket?

How 'bout them Cowboys?! Yeah! 3-0 and a complete domination of the NFC Champion Chicago Bears.

Still reading through 1 Corinthians.....it's so good. Just so much good stuff about the attitude of the church, Christians, and how we interact with our community.

We have some great students at Springcreek. We finished up our series on Islam last night and start a 4 week series on Catholicism next week. I just love our students....they are just an impressive group of kids.

Well.....the Cryin' Eagles are 3-1 after an impressive, hard-fought 7-0 shutout of the Bears last Saturday at Central Park in Garland. Headed to practice tonight......

What's for snack?

I love Friday nights. Usually that means goin' out to eat with the fam, and watching a high school football game. I don't think Kelly gets as excited as I do about the football part, but she puts up with it. Last week Beaux and I went by ourselves to the Rowlett HS game. It was in Plano, and that's just a little too far to ask Kelly or the girls to go for a game. Not sure who we'll go watch tonight......but who it is doesn't matter that much to me.

Football updates.....of course the Cowboys got off to a great start. Not only did they beat the Giants, but they beat them up. The rest of the teams in the division owe us big time. But the story of the year is the Cryin' Eagles of Garland Pee Wee Football. Not much cryin' goin' on right now. We're off to a 2-0 start after a 46-18 throttling of the Owlets (that's their real name, not one I made up) last weekend. We face a much tougher opponent tomorrow however in the Hawklets (actual name...the Hawks). We'll see.....but the important thing is what's for snack. Go Eagles (that is so hard to say when you're a Cowboys fan).

I was thinkin' about the Cryin' Eagles this morning when I was reading Paul's letter to the Corinthians. There is so much about the game of football that I could talk to these 10 year olds about that would go right over their heads. They don't care about the intracasies of the game...they want to play the game. They don't understand the importance of running down the clock to protect a lead, or not fake punting everytime because you can on X-Box. They don't care about staying at home and watching for the reverse, or why it's important as as defensive end to not get caught inside. They just want to play and then get to snack time.

In the second chapter of 1st Corinthians Paul reminds us that using big words, deep thoughts, and showing off our knowledge of the bible is not how people come to know Christ. It's the simple message of Christ died for our sins....for you and me. The Holy Spirit begins to work and God transforms an individual. It's not us, our knowledge, our wisdom, or anything else we believe we have to offer.....it's God.

I recently heard of a group of students preaching hard and loud at a local mall. They had a group of supporters there from their church and school, but some of our students happened by and weren't sure what to think. I was really proud of our students becaused they recognized the possible ineffectiveness of this method. It's not impressive to a non-believer for someone to brow beat them with their biblical knowledge. What's impressive is when someone loves them, and works at forming a relationship with them. This is the type of love Christ shows us.

You should go to my friend Meghan's blog. The link is on the right of this page (Meghan Says...). She's one of our sr. students, and the first paragraph of her blog on Sept. 10th is a great summary of the kind of love God has for us. Why should we do anything but show the same kind of love to others. We can't expect non-Christians to understand or act out the Christian lifestyle. There has to be a life-changing transformation that only comes from God himself. Right now, non-believers are just wondering what's for snack. What's next? Is there more to this life?

There is more. What relationships are we forming and building so that the people around us will know there's more?

Paul, football, and the Imperials

So many times we forget our place in life. It's so easy to forget sometimes that God uses us in spite of who we are, not because of who we are.....it reminds me of an old song by the, hmmhmm, Imperials (now that is old school). There was a line that said "it's not because of who I am, but because of whose I am."

In 1 Corinthians 1:26 Paul reminds us that we were not wise in the world's eyes, or powerful, or wealthy when God called us.....and then v.27 is completely humbling when it says that "God chose what is foolish in the world....." Isn't amazing the people that God has used throughout history? Moses, David, Rahab, Jonah, Peter...the list could go on and on. Keith made a great statement, regarding some of these biblical heroes, last night at the first Wednesday communion service. He chooses us and calls us so that he can show his power, grace, and mercy through our conversion and then service to Him. No amount of human knowledge can replace the saving grace and atonement of Christ's death on the cross and His resurrection.

Thank you God for choosing to use this foolish man to do your work. I pray that I will continue to depend on you and not myself......it's when I get out of the way and let you work that I am amazed by what you do.....1 Cor. 1:25..."For God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength."

Well.....it's here.........opening night of the 2007 NFL season. I love this time of year! The Cowboys open up with the Giants Sunday night. Could be the best year we've seen out of the 'Boys in a while. Here's my bold prediction of the year..........Marion Barber becomes the starting RB for Dallas by week 6 and rushes for 1,000 yards this season.

By the way....the Cryin' Eagles opened our season last week with a convincing 31-0 win over the Viklings. We scored more in that game than the previous 2 seasons combined. Yes...I said seasons. Big game with the Owlets this week.
